Start with a Disclaimer: This is just my experience, I know your experience may be different…
Approach the subject assuming your experiences will be different
With food
Active listening
Ask questions, but try not to make them yes or no questions
Don’t tell people what they “should” do
Recognize the power of interpretation
Don’t make assumptions
Recognize that people speak out of a deep place shared out of love
Leave your expectations behind
Be willing to change yourself
Invite them to share an experience or event with you
Go to an event outside of your normal routine (like the Jan 24 Interfaith Potluck)
Invest in the relationship
